Lawrence A. Abelson is a partner at Epport, Richman & Robbins, LLP, practicing in the areas of commercial law, banking, bankruptcy, real estate, and general business matters. With over fourteen years of experience, Mr. Abelson's practice includes both litigation and transactional matters. With regard to litigation, Mr. Abelson has briefed and/or argued cases before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, and the California Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal, with several published decisions.

Mr. Abelson's practice includes transactional real estate, including acquisitions and dispositions, financing, development, and joint venture formation. His real property acquisitions and dispositions practice includes representing buyers and sellers in complex purchase, sale, and 1031 exchange transactions involving all types of properties. Mr. Abelson's financing experience includes representing both borrowers and lenders on the origination of loans (including CMBS loans) secured by office buildings, apartment buildings, hotels, and retail properties located in California and throughout the United States, the defeasance of loans, and loan servicing matters.

Education: Mr. Abelson received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in International Relations from Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts, in 1989. At Tufts, Mr. Abelson was admitted to the Phi Beta Kappa Society and received the Distinguished Achievement Award in International Relations. Mr. Abelson received a Juris Doctor from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1992, and is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Society. While at UCLA, Mr. Abelson was a member of the Moot Court Honors Program and the Federal Communications Law Journal.

Admissions: Mr. Abelson was admitted to the California State Bar and the United States District Court, Central District of California in 1992. Mr. Abelson was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of California in 1996 and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 1997. In 2001, Mr. Abelson was admitted to the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Abelson was featured in Southern California Super Lawyers 2007 and is a member of the California State Bar Business Law, Litigation, and Real Property Law Sections, the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Bankruptcy, Commercial Law, Litigation, and Real Property Sections), and the Beverly Hills Bar Association.
